anonymous web proxy : I publish to the outside world but not via the Default Web Site. I host acouple of web sites sitting on the same server Proxy is sitting on (due tocash restrictions) and Anonymous Access is allowed on those sites soexternal web browsers aren't challenged with a username / password when theycome in.Is Anonymous Access also allowed in my Default Web site? As a seriousAdmin I would not allow it (my Default Web Site is NOT published to theworld so all my internal users hitting the Web Proxy are logged by theirusername in the Web Proxy logs so I can track their activity. But alas,Anonymous Access is ALLOWED. Why? Because Hotmail in Outlook Express onlyworks when anonymous access in disabled in the Default Web Site !!!! Thisis a known problem to Microsoft. Besides, this is all only a three computerhome network anyway. I built proxy up and overcame many obstacles based onsolutions provided by both Mr. Windell and Mr. Cox. Thank you both verymuch.

anonymous web proxy : I think you're basically correct. I'm not sure which authentication gets"hit" first if both Anon and NTCR are enabled. I would think Anon is hitfirst since you don't see user names in the logs until Anon is disabled. As to the Hotmail issue...we don't allow anyone access to any other emailsystem then our internal one so it's no biggie. I'm surprised that you needAnon enabled for it to work. I would think if you install WSP client andgrant Unlimited Access it should work...--***************No Email RepliesTim you're definitely right - I have WSP client installed and it will workwith unlimited access and Anon disabled in the Default Web - I was justexperimenting trying to get it to work with the Web Proxy only - which itwouldn't and is a known issue to Microsoft according to Q247335.

anonymous web proxy : Web Proxy has a little "punch" it seems that Winsock Proxy (millisecondsfaster). There shouldn't be so much confusion on this. I run all three forms at thesame time so I can watch "live-in-person" what it does. For inside users NTC/R will catch them (or Basic with Netscape). Outsideusers will get Anonymous. You never see Anonymous in my logs from insidemachines. Web Proxy logs always show the username. Outside users can allanonymously get to the Default Website without having to log in, howeverthey need a log in (using Basic) to go any further than that.External Anonymous will function for any files/folders that the IUSR_* andIWAM_* hve permission to. If I alter the folder permissions of a folder thatan external user would hit, Anonymous would drop out and they would getprompted for authentication via Basic. NTC/R doesn't work at all foroutside users because it requires the "Client for Microsoft Networking" tofunction.

anonymous web proxy : I am logging Web Proxy and Winsock Proxy to an Access Database. Winsockproxy logs correct IP address and usename. Web Proxy logs IP addresssuccessfully but not the Username. I have configured my Browser (IE 4.01)Security to use "Automatic login with current username and password" forUser Authenication under Security Settings for All Zones. This still doesnot log the username. I have also configured the Browser Security to use"Prompt for Username and Password" but it never prompts.Web Proxy always logs Username as "Anonymous". Is this a bug in IE 4.01 oram I missing something obvious?Do you have NT Challenge Response turned on under the WWW service?Have you configured the web service (IIS) on the proxy to not allowanonymous authentication? If he has challenge response AND anonymous checked, the microsoft clientswill still use the challenge response by default. Only non-microsoftclients would show up as anonymous.

anonymous web proxy : I am using IE3.02 for Win95 (logged into an NT domain). My web proxysession show up as anonymous, though my winsock proxy sessions show myname.I have not been able to force NT login when available on my internalworkstations. On Wed, 21 Jan 1998 13:05:05 -0500, "Herman Bozeman" wrote:Mine just started doing that after I upgraded to the NT4 Option Pack. First I couldn't get clients to logon to the proxy then I looked in the microsoft Knowledge Base and it said unselect access control. Now they connect as anonymous. With "Enabe Access Control" set at Web Proxy Service, use "Domain Users" group instead of "Everyone" at "Grant Access To" option ofprotocol WWW.I am logging Web Proxy an Access Database. Web Proxy was logging the IPaddress successfully but the Username was always anonymous. I turned on NT challenge and response. It is now logging usernames at allsites but I get the following error message when I try to access myintranet site...
